Who I Am

A local, veteran-owned tech business.

I'm a veteran running Bulwark Black LLC out of Chimacum, WA, doing business as Rural Tech and Support. I help households, small businesses, and rural operators with the kind of IT, security, and AI work that the big firms either won't take or overcharge for.

I publish what I help with. I finish what I start. I say "no" when something isn't worth buying. Most jobs get scoped in a single call.

How I Work

Fundamentals first. AI where it earns its keep.

Most problems aren't fancy. They're missed fundamentals, a forgotten password, a router that hasn't been touched in five years, a backup that was never tested. I start there. Then, if it makes sense for your situation, I layer in automation or AI. If it doesn't, I'll tell you.

Want to set up your own AI workspace?

You know AI could probably help your business. The hard part is knowing where to start, what tools to use, and how to connect AI to the way your business actually works. One hour, one-on-one, on your machine. We set up the right workspace, organize your business knowledge, and build a real workflow together before you log off.

Plain English. No jargon required. You bring the business, I bring the tools. Over time, your workspace becomes the AI operating system for your business.

Common Questions

What people usually want to know.

  • Do you only work in Jefferson County? +
On-site, yes. Chimacum, Port Townsend, Port Hadlock, Quilcene, Port Ludlow, Brinnon, Port Gamble, Kingston, Sequim, and the rest of the Olympic Peninsula. Remote work goes anywhere in the US. If you are outside the area and want hands-on help, ask first and I will be straight about whether it is practical.
  • Do you support households and individuals, or only businesses? +
Both. A big chunk of my work is personal IT for households, retirees, and small operators who want a calm, capable person to handle the tech without selling them anything they do not need. Same approach for businesses, just at a slightly bigger scale.
  • What is your sweet spot for small businesses? +
Roughly 1 to 25 employees. Shops, clinics, offices, family operations. I handle the IT, the security fundamentals, light automation, and the websites or AI work that helps you sell or operate. Bigger than that, I will point you to someone who specializes.
  • Do you handle SCADA, OT, or critical-infrastructure security? +
Yes. My background is Navy submarine mission systems and VMware's Detection and Response Team. OT and IT segmentation, ICS hardening, and detection telemetry are in my lane. For rural utilities, ports, and small water or wastewater operations, ask.
  • Can you support federal contracting, CMMC, or DFARS compliance? +
Yes. SDVOSB registered, SAM active, CAGE and UEI in the footer. I have done FedRAMP and CMMC compliance work on the consulting side. For full assessor or 3PAO work I bring in a partner, but I can scope, advise, and prep your environment.
  • What does 'AI help' actually mean in practice? +
Two things, mostly. First, picking the right tools for your situation and getting them set up so they save you time instead of becoming another chore. Second, building small custom workflows when off-the-shelf does not fit, like drafting documents, summarizing intake, or automating boring data entry. I will tell you plainly when AI is not the answer.
  • How do you charge? +
Three options. A $199 paid advisory call, one hour, for sharp targeted questions. A written project quote after we talk, billable on milestones or fixed price depending on the work. Or hourly for ongoing maintenance. No retainers I do not earn each month.
  • What is the best way to start working together? +
Quickest path is the Apply form on this site. Five minutes. I read every one personally and respond within one business day. If you want a faster answer, book the paid advisory call and we can talk this week if my calendar has room.
